In 50th years specialists of the military dog’s school “Red Star” in Moscow began to create an universal quard dog named black terrier.
Four main breeds took part in the making of black terrier: Rotweiler, Giant Schnauzer, Airedale Terrier and Newfoundlander. This breed was made by the way of complete reproductive crossing, as a horse specialist I can say that there were used the best methods of horse breeding. And it worked out perfectly well.

Some part of descendants of the 3-d generation were given to the non-military clubs of Moscow, Leningrad (today’s Saint-Petersburg), Rybinsk, Yaroslavl. Later, there cities became the centers of developing of the breed “black terrier”.

80-th: black terriers were first shown up in the important international exhibitions and had an invariable success.

1981: “Russian black terrier” is considered as a separated original breed. The first standard was approved on the 13-Th (are you superstitious? I hope not ;) of May, 1981 in Russia.

1984: The International Federation of dog-breeding gave number 327 to the standard of Russian terrier (at the the World Assembly in Mexico).

1993: The Federation of guard-god breeding adopted the second variant of standard, corresponding more to the modern kind of black terrier.

For many years black terrier was used mostly as a guard dog - it’s a hard working and reliable dog.

They say, these dogs have the best features of their forefathers - energy and mobility of giant schnauzer, quick-wittedness and merry disposition of airedales, strength and courage of rotweiler, restraint and steadiness of Newfoundlander.

Besides that, forefathers-half-breeds gave to Russian black terrier an excellent health, endurance, unpretentiousness and surprising mind.

Today Russian Black terrier is rather a dog-companion than a guard dog. That’s why all gloomy stories and fantasies about the Russian black terrier where it’s named “a dog of KGB” or a monster with four legs made to hunt people, ring unethically and insultingly.

Russian black terrier is one of the vivid pages in Russian dog-breeding. This dog is strong, courageous, suspecting for strange people, but it has really Olympic calmness. This is a rare kind of active dog that can be controlled in any situation.

For these good features and for it’s beauty and charm the dog is named “the black pearl of Russia
